St. Raymond School is partnering with Military Outreach USA in their Veterans Exiting Homelessness Program. As a faith-based, nonprofit organization, Military Outreach USA and its partners have helped more than 38,000 Veterans throughout the nation by providing move-in essentials, beds, clothing and opportunities that empower our Military Community to live independent lives.
We’ve all seen pictures of homeless veterans struggling to regain their footing when returning to civilian life. They risked their lives for us and now there is something we can do for them. Fortunately, our Veteran’s Administration (VA) has a wonderful rent subsidy program that moves homeless veterans to apartments. When a veteran leaves a shelter or transitional housing and moves to a permanent residence, they often do not have the basic items needed to set up their new home.
This is where the St. Raymond School community can help out. We are doing a collection drive to assist veterans moving into new housing. The VA will distribute 100% of the items collected to service veterans in the greater Chicagoland area within a week of the end of our drive.
The drive will take place from Monday, October 23rd, through Thursday, November 9th, only. Please see the list of move-in essentials that are needed. All donations may be dropped off at the school office and our eighth graders will organize and pack them. Please help us fill the collection bins and show our appreciation to those who fought for our country and gave us our freedom.
If you have any questions regarding this service project, please feel free to contact Mrs. Fedor at [email protected] or call 847-253-8555.
